AIDS FOR NEURODIVERGENT CHILDREN, OUR JOURNEY SO FAR
Hi, I'm Pete, founder and designer of Windows to Words, with over 36 years of engineering experience.
My wife Debbie (the brains behind the business) has worked in the healthcare sector for over 25 years.
Our daughter runs our Website and Social Media.
WINDOWS TO WORDS - CREATING EMPOWERING SEN LEARNING VISUAL
The journey of Windows to Words began with a simple question and a desire to help. Inspired by my wife's friend and colleague Emma, whose son Eddie is non-verbal has autism, epilepsy and a rare genetic diagnosis, we saw firsthand the challenges of daily communication. At the time, Eddie relied on laminated paper signs to express his needs. However, with constant daily use, these paper tools quickly wore out, leading to understandable frustration.
Emma approached us with a challenge: could we design a communication tool that was safe, tactile, hygienic, and durable enough to withstand everyday use?
Driven by this mission, we spent months trying various designs. Our breakthrough led to the product we offer today - a collection of robust, reusable communication tags, beautifully housed in a dedicated window disply storage box. Hence the company name Windows to Words.
When it was time to trial Windows to Words with Eddie, the feedback was truly phenomenal. He connected with the product loving the tactile feel and raised easily recognisable designs. No more frustration through missing or damaged paper cards!
With a successful product in hand, the next chapter of our business began at home. Utilising our daughters IT expertise, she built our website and established our social media presence, laying the foundation for the growing business we are today.
Windows to Words is a true family venture. We could not have reached this milestone without the dedication of our family, the encouragement of friends, and most importantly support of our community.
Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us give a voice to those who need it most.
Why communication aids for non-verbal, pre-verbal and autistic children?
Child safety first
All our products are made from high-grade PLA (polyactic acid) which is safe for children, it's a non-toxic, odourless bioplastic made from natural plant startches such as corn starch or sugarcane, it's food safe, biodegradable and hygienic.
We strive to make your child's individual needs our priority. If we don't have the tags you require we can custom make them for you at no extra cost!
We are constantly working on new product designs to expand our range and improve your child's communication at home, at school and when out and about.
